On October 26, 2016 Odessa House of Scientists hosted a regular meeting of the Odessa Standing Group on Theory, History and Historiography. Professor of the I.I. Mechnikov University Olga Brusylovska and PhD student Yana Kolesnik presented their reports after their participation at the Congress of the International Association of Political Sciences in Poznan.

The topic of the 24th World Congress was "Politics in an unequal world." In addition to the important role of exchange of views and presentation of research results the Congress played a role of a platform for acquaintance of experts working in the same direction from different countries and continents. Researchers and scholars of international relations have been presented with quite a small group of about 1/12 of the total number of participants. However, some panels were organized on geopolitical issues and primarily focused on Turkey and the threat of militarization of the Arctic.

Speakers noted the common-European trend of returning to research of the real situation, instead of the methods of research.

The question of inequality was highlighted as well. According to the economists, globalization has led to closure of the gap between different countries at the global level, but on the national one there are negative trends and the common solution to this problem is not yet formulated. Exceptions and good examples are Scandinavian countries and Japan.

The issue of gender equality and migration issues were widely covered. A new trend is to look not only at the relationship between migrants and the host country, but also pay great attention to the sending country for more effective problem solving. So-called "concept of a kin-state" and "kin minority" were also discussed.

Special attention was given to a significant impact of the Internet and social media on politics, particularly during elections and protests.

The report on the analysis of the Polish strategic culture and policy of interventions draw attention of the participants. In his study, the author compares Polish strategic culture with German of the 90s and concludes the presence of two strategic cultures in Poland that coexist and prevail at some stages.
