The fellows of the Center for International studies, Odesa Mechnikov National University are involved in a variety of research and training activities. They belong to various Ukrainian and international professional associations and organizations. They have taken part in numerous exchange programs, such as Fulbright, PONARS Eurasia, Regional Scholar Exchange Program (RSEP), Contemporary Issues Program, Community Connections Program, CEU Summer University, U.S. Summer and Winter Institutes on National Security and more.

Senior research fellows

Volodymyr Dubovyk

Volodymyr Dubovyk is the Director of Center for International Studies - CIS. He has graduated from the history department of the Odessa State University in 1992. He has received his Ph.D. (Candidate of Sciences) in political science/international relations from the same university in 1996 and has remained with OSU (now ONU - Odesa National University) in various positions up to the present day.

He has had his fellowships at the Kennan Institute twice, also held internship at W. Wilson International Center for Scholars(RSEP), at the Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland (CISSM), University of Maryland (CI program). In 2011 Volodymyr taught a course for the Global Studies Program, University of Wroclaw, and in the first half of 2013, he delivered three courses for the H.J. Ellison Center, School of International Studies, University of Washington (Seattle).

Volodymyr was and still is a member of numerous international assosiations: the ISA (International Studies Association), CEE (Central and East European) ISA, ECPR (European Consortium for Political Research) SGIR (Standing Group on International Relations), PONARS Eurasia (New Approaches to Research and Security in Eurasia).

Director Volodymyr Dubovyk, who is on the Fulbright program in the 2016-17 academic year, has begun teaching the course "Ukraine: contemporary issues and challenges" on January 19, 2017. The course is taught at the St. Edwards university in Austin, Texas. 18 students from the global studies and political science programs have enrolled in the course. This course encompasses a variety of challenges that Ukraine faces - from economic development, introducing reforms, fighting corruption to dealing with the Russian aggression. It addresses Ukraine's relations with major international players, - states and international organizations.

Among his teaching and research interests are U.S. foreign policy, U.S.- Ukraine relations, theory of international relations, Black Sea regional security, international conflict studies, foreign policy of Ukraine.

Sergii V. Glebov

Sergii V. Glebov is an Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations and Leading Research Fellow at the Center for International Studies, Odesa Mechnikov National University. He is kandydat politicheskih nayk (equivalent to Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations). His research and teaching interests are in the field of foreign and security policy of Ukraine, European and Euro-Atlantic security, international relations in the Black Sea-Caspian region, foreign policy of Russia, NATO-Ukraine, EU-Ukraine relations. In 2000/2001 he was a visiting scholar at the Center for European Studies, University of Exeter (Exeter, UK) and at Columbia University, Harriman Institute (New-York City, USA) in 2003.

He received several individual and institutional fellowships, including from HESP/AFP Open Society Institute (Budapest, Hungary), Carnegie Foundation and Jean Monnet Program. He wrote more than 35 scientific articles and chapters which were published in national and international editions; speaker and presenter in numerous scientific events in Europe and USA.

He is author and anchorman of the politcal programs at Media TV-Radio Group “GLAS” (Odesa). Now he is working on the monograph with the working title “Black Sea Region: the Case for System Analysis”.

Denys Kuzmin

Denis V. Kuzmin (born in 1974) has graduated from the Department of History, ONU in 1996. Since 1996 Denys is Senior Research Fellow and European Studies program Coordinator at the Center for International Studies, ONU. Since 1999 Denys is a Assistant Professor at Department of International Relations, ONU. He teaches the following courses: "Theory and history of European integration", "International organizations". He passed training in the United States, Canada, EU.

Iryna Maksymenko

Iryna Maksymenko graduated from the Department of International Relations at Institute of Social Sciences, Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University. Since 2001 she is Research Fellow of the Center for International Studies; and has taught lessons at the Department of International Relations. As Research Fellow of the Center she has been involved in realization of numerous projects on European and Security Studies. In 2003 she has been appointed as CEP Teaching Assistant. In 2004-2015 Iryna was a Senior Research Fellow at Odesa Regional Branch of National Institute for Strategic Studies, Department of regional studies. Her research and teaching interests are the EU foreign policy, which include the EU security and enlargement policies, the European strategy towards the Black Sea region, Ukraine’s foreign policy, Transnistria conflict.

Polina Sinovets

Polina Sinovets graduated from the Department of International Relations at Institute of Social Sciences, Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University. In 2004 she took PhD in Political Sciences. Since 2000 she is a Senior Research Fellow of the Center for International Studies; and from September 2015 she heads Odesa Center for Nonproliferation. Polina took part at the numerous international conferences and work-shops, has published monographs and articles on international security, Russia’s military policy, USA and Russia’s strategic dialogue, nuclear weapons nuclear deterrence theory, arms control, nonproliferation.

Alla Zakharchenko

Alla Zakharchenko is Associate Professor at the Department of International Relations, Odesa Mechnikov National University. She also served as Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Ukraine (2003-2015). She holds a Ph.D. in Political Sciences/International Relations from the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Kyiv (2006). Alla Zakharchenko specializes in problems of security and conflicts in the Middle East; the policy of the USA, the EU, Russia and China in the region. She has published 50 scientific articles and chapters on these topics and participated in numerous scientific conferences and research programs in the USA, Israel, European contries, etc. She is a member of several international associations. Her current research focuses on transformations in the Middle East after the “Arab Spring”.

Olga Sira

Olga Sira is a post-graduate student at Odesa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov, the speciality is «Political problems of international systems and global development». She graduated from International relations department. Olga has BA degree and is specialist in international relations with knowledge of Japanese and English languages. The topic of her research is “The Korean Peninsula within the regional and global security systems”. But the sphere of her interest also covers North-East Asia and South-East Asia regions and various categories of their development, in general. Olga is also getting her second higher education in “Civil law”.

Tetiana Melnyk

Tetiana Melnyk is a graduate and post-graduate student of the department of International Relations of the I.I. Mechnikov Odesa National University, specialty "Political problems of international systems and global development." Tatiana has a bachelor's degree and master’s degree in international relations with knowledge of Turkish and English. Also studies French. Ms. Melnyk works on thesis on "Nuclear factor in European security." The scope of her interests includes issues of nuclear deterrence, functioning of the EU and NATO, the study of international terrorism, democratic development, European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine. While studying Tatiana actively participated in various scientific and educational projects, has passed internships in a number of institutions, including the European Parliament (2016 g) and the EU Delegation to Ukraine (2014), worked on contract at the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia (2015) and attended a semester-long exchange program with the Latvian University on European studies.

Oleksandr Cheban

Oleksandr Cheban graduated from the Department of International Relations at Institute of Social Sciences, Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University. 2014-2017 he was a Senior Research Fellow of the Center for International Studies; and during 2015-2017 he also was a Senior Research Fellow of the Odessa Center for Nonproliferation. Oleksandr took part at the numerous conferences and work-shops on such issues as Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security, Iranian nuclear program, problems of nuclear proliferation and nuclear security the Middle East as well.
