February 24, 2017 the regular meeting of the Odessa Standing Group on Theory, History and Historiography of the International Relations was conducted on Foreign Policy of the Trump Administration: the first month, the first impressions.

Using video connection via Skype from the United States the speech was given by Volodymyr Dubovyk, director of the Center for International Studies, Associate Professor of International Relations at the I.I. Mechnikov Odessa National University and 2016-2017 Fulbright Scholar.

Presentation revealed such obstacles on the way of forming Administration as no team ready before getting into office and lack of support from some leading members of the Republican Party were discussed during the meeting. Key figures from the team of the 45th US president were identified and disclosed further at the report. Specific attention was given to a large number and influence of ideologues, relatives and former generals at this Administration. Moreover, the latter are considered somehow as a stabilizing factor and advocates of more traditional Republican Party politics.

President Trump came to the White House with non-traditional approaches as for the Republican Party. Among the features that have become apparent over the last month of presidency we should mention the ideological nature of policies rather than pragmatism, attempts to propose principally different policies from Obama’s ones, isolationism and openly dedication to a populist course as the one "reflecting the vision of ordinary Americans".

Main directions of international cooperation of the US with other states and international security challenges were discussed as well.
