October 22 Volodymyr Dubovyk, Director of the Center for International Studies, Odessa I.I. Mechnikov National University, will present a topic "50 years after Selma: how far has America gone since then" at American House Kyiv.
It has been 50 years this year since hundreds marched in Selma, Alabama and millions watched all over U.S. and around the world. How far has America gone since then? We see African Americans in all walks of life of American society, economics, culture, sports, its body politic - including highest offices of power. And yet we see the instances of racial tensions, police violence and terrible manifestations of hate, such as a tragedy in Charleston. So, where is America going? Americans getting together or is that divide growing?
